New EV Competitors: Rivian and Lucid

Introduction

Since the beginning of the automotive industry, there has been a clear delineation between gas-powered and electric vehicles. Gas-powered cars have had more power and better features than their all-electric counterparts. However, that is starting to change with two new competitors entering the EV market: Rivian and Lucid. These companies are not focused on just making electric cars; they want to make high-quality ones too–Rivian is working on an all-electric pickup truck while Lucid is focusing more on luxury vehicles. This will force more established EV companies like Tesla, GM, Nissan, Toyota, and BMW to step up their game by coming up with new features to make their cars better than these newer competitors.

What is Rivian

Rivian is a company that is entering the EV market with an all-electric pickup truck. This company is not new to the automotive industry, as it has been designing and manufacturing vehicles for twenty years. Rivian was founded by RJ Scaringe in 2009. The company’s purpose was to create a sustainable electric vehicle. So Rivian has been involved in everything from designing and manufacturing vehicles to building charging stations.

The first EV model Rivian plans to release is the R1T and this will be followed by the R1S and R1D trucks soon after.

What is Lucid

Lucid is a company that is entering the EV market with luxury EVs. This company was founded by Bernard Tse, who has thirty years of experience in automotive design. The company is headquartered in Silicon Valley and has won several awards for its work with electric vehicles. Lucid’s first vehicle is expected to be released in 2022 and it will be an all-electric SUV. The R1T truck is expected to have a surprisingly low price–$50,000–compared to other upcoming EVs on the market. Along with the low price, it will also have standard upgrades like leather seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, Wi-Fi hot spots up to 12 miles away, LED headlights with adaptive high beams, and a backup camera. These standard upgrades will make the R1T very competitive with traditional gas-powered vehicles.

The Lucid Air is expected to have a similar price range–$52,500 for the base model and $100,000 for the top-of-the-line version–but it will be a luxury vehicle that will compete directly with Tesla’s Model S and X.

The difference between Lucid, Rivian and other EV companies

So what does this mean for established EV companies?

Rivian and Lucid are very different from established EV companies. They’re more interested in the types of vehicles, not just electric vehicles. For example, Rivian is working on an all-electric pickup truck while Lucid is focusing more on luxury vehicles. This will force more established EV companies like Tesla, GM, Nissan, Toyota, and BMW to step up their game by coming up with new features to make their cars better than these newer competitors.

Lucid’s mission is to design and manufacture high-quality luxury EVs. However, they’re not just focusing on making EVs–they want to develop the best features as well, such as self-driving capabilities and smart cars. This will make them a major competitor in the EV market because many people who purchase luxury vehicles also want the latest and greatest features. Rivian’s mission is to develop EVs that are sustainable, which means they do not emit any greenhouse gasses or cause any pollution whatsoever. Rivian’s first vehicle will be an all-electric truck, which is a deviation from most electric cars currently on the market (most of them are luxury vehicles). This will help Rivians’ mission because they are targeting the majority of American consumers–those who regularly use pickup trucks.

How this will affect more established EV companies like Tesla, GM, Nissan, Toyota and BMW

Lucid and Rivian are both new players in the EV market. They’re more interested in the types of vehicles than just electric, which will force more established EV companies like Tesla, GM, Nissan, Toyota and BMW to step up their game by coming up with new features to make their cars better than these newer competitors. These companies are not just focusing on making EVs–they want to develop the best possible features as well, such as self-driving capabilities and smart cars. This will definitely make them a major competitor in the EV market because many people who purchase luxury vehicles also want the latest and greatest features.

The future of EVs with these new competitors entering the market

The future of electric vehicles is looking brighter than ever before. With new competitors like Rivian and Lucid entering the market, established EV companies like Tesla will have to work even harder to keep up. Both companies are interested in types of EVs that other EV companies aren’t, which means they’re putting more effort into these features that many people desire (like safety features). This will only make the competition stronger, but it looks like this won’t be a problem for established players like Tesla since they’ve been doing well anyways–they’ve sold over 1M cars in total.

We can expect that these new features and innovations will start spreading through all EV competitors faster than before. This means that we should prepare ourselves for a lot of exciting changes in the years to come!

Conclusion

The difference between Lucid, Rivian, and other EV companies is that they offer vehicles with a variety of styles. For example, while Tesla has been focused on luxury cars in the past, it may need to start offering different types of vehicles like pickups or SUVs if it wants to remain competitive against newer competitors who are focusing more on these vehicle types. These new entrants into the electric vehicle market will force established players to rethink their approach and come up with new features for upcoming models so they can stay ahead of the curve when competing against these newcomers. It’s an exciting time for EVs as we see both traditional car companies and tech firms try out what works best!

Similar to Tesla, Lucid Motors is building a network of its own service centers along with certified collision repair facilities. Rivian is providing service via repair centers and mobile vans that can come to you if you don’t live near one of their service center locations (Tesla also offers mobile service to some customers.)To learn how we can help with your Tesla, Rivian, or Lucid repairs, please call us at (760) 433-5050 or email us to learn more.
